Image description

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) VNR Task Group, we are pleased to invite you to a side event held in the framework of the 2026 ECOSOC Partnership Forum and co-organized with ECE-RCEM and Together 2030.

 Date: Tuesday, 27 January 2026
 Time: 08:00 AM (New York Time)
 Format: Online interactive discussion (via Zoom)
 Title: MGoS VNR Follow-up Lessons: One Year After the Review
 Register here: https://ece-rcem.org/advocacy/tpost/jea48once1-side-event-at-2026-partnership-forum-mgo

About the event
Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) are a pivotal tool for accelerating progress on the SDGs. Yet, sustaining momentum after the review remains a significant challenge. This interactive side event brings together civil society representatives from across regions to reflect on post-VNR follow-up experiences one year after the 2025 review. Participants will explore how follow-up mechanisms have fared, what practices have endured, and how civil society’s engagement has contributed to continued SDG implementation.

Objectives include:

  • Sharing experiences of post-VNR stakeholder engagement and implementation across regions;

  • Identifying good practices and lessons learned;

  • Discussing how inclusive monitoring mechanisms can be institutionalized;

  • Exploring linkages between VNRs, voluntary local reviews (VLRs), and independent reporting mechanisms.

Who should attend:
Civil society organizations, Major Groups and other Stakeholders, government representatives, UN entities, and partners committed to strengthening accountability and implementation beyond the VNR cycle.

This side event is part of the broader 2026 ECOSOC Partnership Forum, taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 27 January 2026, a key global platform that engages diverse actors on transformative, equitable, and coordinated actions for advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

We look forward to your participation in what promises to be a dynamic and insightful discussion.
